Google Dropcam found vulnerable[/caption]Google's recent purchase Dropcam is found vulnerable to hijacking. A home video surveillance Dropcam could be used to inject fake videos over its server. Google purchased Dropcam from Nest at a price of $US555 million last month.
What is Google Dropcam?
Google Dropcam is a cloud base Wi-Fi monitoring device service which makes your connectivity easier with your closed ones. It is a mobile app which once connected can be used to stream live and record over the internet. It uses your mobile camera to connect and records it over the Dropcam server which can be viewed in future also.
Google DropCam found vulnerable
Two researchers of security firm Synack, California did penetration testing of the video monitoring platform providing Dropcam and found it vulnerable. Wardle (@patrickwardle) and Moore (@colbymoore) did reverse engineering. [caption id="attachment_640" align="aligncenter" width="508"]
Online video monitoring[/caption] Attackers could make gain a physical access to the devices and further could inject video frames into the cameras. This could be handy for the robbers to intercept videos, pull passwords and SSL server's private key.
Warden told at his blog DarkReading that, if someone is able to gain the physical access, its pretty much game over. The duet of researchers will describe more on it and would perform a live demo of the vulnerability found in Google Dropcam at the upcoming DEF CON 22 conference. The conference would be held next month in Las Vegas. Some other tricks like how to infect Windows or MAC OS X boxes that were used to configure Google Dropcam would also be told there.
